Life-Saving Defibrillator at Theatre Thanks to Bury Abbey Rotary

Theatre Royal is delighted to be the proud owners of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) generously funded by Bury Abbey Rotary Club.

An AED is a portable life saving device that can give a casualty’s heart an electric shock, when it has stopped beating normally in a sudden cardiac arrest.  It is a device that the theatre hopes never to be put to use but its presence is a reassuring addition to this popular public building.

By using a defibrillator before an ambulance arrives, a casualty’s chance of survival is significantly increased.

Jane Gaynor, President of The Rotary Club of Bury St Edmunds Abbey, says this was a very donation very close to their hearts, “Bury Abbey Rotary Club are delighted to be able to support the purchase of the defibrillator at the Theatre Royal. We have a number of members in our club who have suffered from heart related illnesses so this is a very personal donation for us.   We sincerely hope the equipment will never need to be used.  However, knowing it is now in place at the Theatre Royal gives us peace of mind that it could help save a life if required”

The defibrillator at Theatre Royal will serve the whole community, not just visitors to the theatre.  Other locations in the town with a defibrillator are Waitrose, Angel Hill, The Apex and McDonald’s.
