Aladdin Cast Announcement
Posted on: 1st October, 2024
Rehearsals for Aladdin, Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds’ 2024 pantomime, are just under six weeks away! As we brace ourselves for the countdown to Christmas, we’re looking forward to seeing who will be taking on the roles West Suffolk’s favourite show of the year. Aladdin runs from 22 November 2024 to 12 January 2025 at Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds.
Meet the Cast:
Samuel Deghkhadirian as Aladdin
Playing the perpetual dreamer with a huge heart, Samuel brings a fantastic voice and dance skills. A recent graduate from Urdang, City of London in 2023 with a degree in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre, Samuel has gone on to perform at the Hackney Empire and in TV commercials.
Darcy Manning as Princess Yasmin
Returning to Theatre Royal after playing Dorothy in Theatre Royal’s 2023 production of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Darcy will be singing her heart out as the forthright young Princess Yasmin. Darcy, an East Anglian actress, has recently been touring the UK with ‘Zog and The Flying Doctors’ from Freckle Productions.
Quinn Patrick as Sally Swankey (Dame)
Quinn joins the cast of Aladdin with a whole host of pantomime experience and will bring his signature Dame-ness to Sally Swankey – a former dry-cleaning entrepreneur who now finds herself a penniless widow. Quinn has TV credits including Amazon Prime’s Pennyworth with Paloma Faith, Emmerdale, Casualty and was part of the BAFTA-winning series Grandpa In My Pocket.
Quinn says: “Having played Dame all over the country, I always heard great stories about the Bury panto, so I’m thrilled to be here doing it. Looking forward to this fantastic new take on the Aladdin story too. I’m sure it’s going to be a wonderful season all around.”
David Djemal as Abanazer
Playing the vain and vile owner of Arabia’s finest hotel, Abanazer International, is David Djemal who has a whole host of acting and writing experience behind him. Having studied acting at the Yoram Lowenstein Studio of Performing Arts, Israel, Music at the Royal Academy of Music, London and performance at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting David is sure to keep the audiences booing and hissing! David has most recently worked on The Taxidermist (Omnibus Theatre) and multi-rolled in The Wetsuitman (Arcola Theatre).
Charlie Cameron as Genie/Vizzy
Playing both the magical Genie and the intrusively enthusiastic Vizzy, aide to Princess Yasmin. Charlie played Ariel in The Tempest at The Globe in 2023 and performed as part of Suffolk’s INK Festival earlier this year.
Charlie said: “Bury St Edmunds is one of the best pantos in the country. The script made me laugh out loud. And a theatre full of people all laughing at silliness is a deep, connecting, highlight of being a human. Can’t wait.”
Ruby Ablett as Washy
Washy is the driving force behind Abanazer International taking every job in her stride all with a quick wit and a smile on her face! Ruby trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was nominated the Best Comic at the Panto Awards in 2023. Ruby’s theatre credits include: The Ocean at the End of the Lane (National Theatre for the West End), The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Birmingham Rep), The Great Murder Mystery: The Hound of the Baskervilles (The Lost Estate).
Lizzie Buckingham as Camilla The Camel
You may recognise Lizzie as the wonderful Corky the Corgi from Theatre Royal’s 2023 pantomime Snow White! Lizzie is back and is playing another sassy animal role as Camilla the Camel, the hotel’s resident furry friend. Lizzie’s theatre credits include: Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes (Waterperry Opera Festival), Magical Merlin (Fortune Theatre) and lots more.
