Fundraising Golf Day 2026

Posted on: 6th May, 2026

We had a fantastic Golf Day at Thetford Golf Course, sponsored by the wonderful Suffolk Village Info with thanks to Ian Duncan, Lovewell Blake, Chassis Cab DAF, Greene King and Taylor Wimpey.

Our annual fundraising Golf Day saw over 250 participants take to the greens of Thetford Golf Course to raise money (and enjoy a round of golf!) for Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds. This fundraising event is a highlight in our calendar and we thank everyone who is able to support this great day!

Since our first Golf Day in 2012, this event has now raised more than £75,000 for the theatre, with this year’s total expected to add a further significant contribution. These funds play a vital role in supporting our work both on stage and within the wider community.

The day brought together a broad mix of players, including 10 teams from Clacton Golf Club and corporate golf teams from businesses such as Taylor Wimpey, Lovewell Blake and our sponsors Greene King and Chassis Cab DAF. Among the golfers were also some familiar faces, including an Ipswich Town Legends team featuring Bryan Hamilton, Paul Goddard, John Peddelty and George Williams – it’s always a pleasure to have their support!

The event was packed with friendly competition and entertainment throughout. Golfers tested their skills in a variety of challenges, including a nine-hole putting contest, nearest the pin competitions, longest drive contests, and a popular “beat the professional” hole. A fantastic selection of prizes was generously donated, with Greene King also providing a welcome halfway stop on the course – a new addition for this year!

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Ian Duncan, whose dedication and organisation continue to make this event such a success year after year. Our sincere appreciation also goes to the team at Thetford Golf Club for their warm hospitality and support in hosting such a memorable day. We are equally grateful to all our corporate teams, sponsors and prize donors. Your generosity and enthusiasm not only make the day enjoyable for everyone involved but also ensure we can continue delivering vital work at Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds.

Emma Suckling, Head of Development said: “We are so grateful to Ian for organising this fantastic golf day at Thetford Golf Club. It raises vital funding for Theatre Royal, enabling us to continue our work in the community. In addition, over 20 per cent of our core income comes from fundraising, so events like this are absolutely crucial.”
