How does it work?

When you arrive at the start point on your ticket, you’ll be given a pair of headphones to wear so that every line of dialogue, sound effect, and musical cue is delivered directly and clearly in this immersive and unforgettable theatrical experience. Audience members will be ushered to Blend on Abbeygate Street where the action will begin. The group will be guided by the Duty Manager from scene to scene as the action unfolds in unexpected places. At the end of the performance, you’ll hand back your headphones to the start point. Our Duty Managers, Front Of House Assistants and Stewards will be on hand before, during and after the performance.

Bury St Edmunds is in for a treat this summer as we bring theatre to the streets of our historic town in our new immersive romcom, Steve And Steff For Ever, running from 1st – 30th August. Written by Ian Jarvis (Beyond Paradise (BBC), The Completely Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin (Apple TV+)) and produced by Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds, Steve And Steff For Ever is a promenade theatre production filled with humour, heartbreak and laugh-out-loud encounters.

Commissioned by Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds and our Commissioning Circle, Steve And Steff For Ever brings high-quality theatre outside of the Theatre Royal’s historic building in a bold new format our town has never seen before. The production’s outdoor nature adds to the excitement and uniqueness, and we’ve carefully selected performance times to give you the chance to enjoy a full evening in Bury – whether that’s grabbing drinks beforehand or heading out for dinner afterwards.

Why Outdoor Performance?
This is our second foray into outdoor theatre following the success of A Christmas Carol in 2020 – also adapted by Ian Jarvis – which was performed on Angel Hill to glowing audience reviews.

“Ever since we staged A Christmas Carol on Angel Hill during Covid-19 lockdown, audiences have been asking us when we’d return to outdoor performance. So this summer, the creative team behind A Christmas Carol will stage Steve And Steff For Ever – a brand-new romantic comedy performed in the streets of Bury St Edmunds. With only 40 tickets available per performance, you’ll need to book early.” – Owen Calvert-Lyons, Director of Steve and Steff For Ever and Artistic Director of Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds.
