The Angel Hotel: New Restaurant Partners and Sponsors

Posted on: 16th May, 2024

Two historic Bury St Edmunds businesses have come together to offer Theatre Royal audiences a delicious pre-show dining offer.

We have teamed up with the beautiful Angel Hotel to offer theatregoers a delicious pre-show restaurant experience in The Eaterie, owned by the family run hospitality powerhouse, Gough Hotels, with the team led by Tom Slegg.

You’ll be able to enjoy a three-course meal and cocktail at The Angel’s Eaterie restaurant for just £35pp and arrive at Theatre Royal in plenty of time for your performance with the Early Evening Express menu. The seasonal, full-flavoured food changes regularly and is expertly cooked by Head Chef Arron Jackson and his team for a delicious beginning to the evening. Take advantage of the Early Evening Express menu which runs between 5-6pm, Monday to Friday. On Saturdays and Sundays, The Angel will be offering Theatre Royal audiences a complimentary glass of fizz when dining from the A La Carte menu.

You can now book your table seamlessly on our website here: Food and Drink.

W are so excited to be partnering with The Angel Hotel as a sponsor and restaurant partner in Spring 2024. A short 6 minute walk from Theatre Royal, visitors to The Angel can enjoy a cultural stay in the historic, yet modern, hotel before visiting the UK’s last working Regency theatre.

Emma Suckling, Head of Development at Theatre Royal: This is a really exciting partnership for Theatre Royal and we can’t wait to begin working with The Angel Hotel in this way and continue our relationship with such a wonderful, local, fine dining restaurant. We have worked together closely over many years, The Angel Hotel providing the backdrop for our outdoor performance of A Christmas Carol in 2020, as well as hosting many of our well-known supporters when they come to Bury St Edmunds to perform on our stage, including Dame Judi Dench, Sir Derek Jacobi, Maureen Lipman, Robert and Philip Glenister and the late Sir Stirling Moss. Through this partnership, The Angel Hotel will also become a main sponsor of Theatre Royal.”

Tom Slegg of the Angel: “Theatre Royal is iconic – a real gem in the town. We have enjoyed working with them for many years and to continue this relationship as their sole restaurant partner is exciting. Both businesses are passionate about hospitality, and about Bury St. Edmunds as a destination. We are looking forward to promoting the town alongside them, by offering a truly unique restaurant and theatre experience.

Theatre Royal is a registered charity, heavily reliant upon private support, and income through sponsorship is crucial to enable us to remain financially robust and continue to offer all that we do for the community of Bury St Edmunds and West Suffolk.

This summer, The Angel are offering an exclusive 10% off Bed and Breakfast exclusively for the receivers of Theatre Royal emails. This offer creates a perfect way for audiences to bring friends to stay in Bury St Edmunds and enjoy a show in the town’s historic theatre. To find details of this offer, and to gain access to the unique code required to book, sign up to Theatre Royal emails on Theatre Royal’s website.
