Royally Funny Comedy Night – June

Thursday 20th June

  • Description
  • Cast & Crew

Fancy a laugh? Theatre Royal’s very own Royally Funny Comedy Night features a great line-up of comedians from across the UK touring circuit alongside up-and-coming comics.

MC for this event is Thor Stenhaug . Thor is a Norwegian comedian based in London. Shortlisted for the British Comedian of the Year competition in 2021, he regularly performs at some of the biggest comedy clubs across the UK. In 2019, 2021 and 2022 he played in sold-out shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Opening we have Dinesh Nathan. After winning several gong shows, Dinesh won South Coast Comedian Of The Year and was a finalist at the Komedia New Act competition and the coveted Leicester Mercury Comedian Of The Year competition.

In 2022 Dinesh appeared on BBC 3’s New Comedian of the Year awards and Comedy Central Live.

“With a mix of high-spirited delivery and sarcastic, self-deprecating viewpoint, this is a club-ready act, bulletproof in its relentless fusillade.” Chortle

“Crowd-pleasing without pandering, Nathan is a class act.” Chortle

Dinesh has provided support on tour for: Tom Allen; Tom Davis; Romesh Ranganathan; Kerry Godliman and Seann Walsh

Next up is Amy Webber. Amy is an award-winning comedian. Equipped with her mini electric piano and an opera degree that’s never been useful, she’s on the hunt for a new job.  Recognised for being “playful and charasmatic” (Chortle), she’s well on her way to her dream job; to be a household name.  Even if that means singing her CV to everyone under the sun.

Amy has written songs for BBC Radio 4 and is a composer for Oxford University Press. She won the ‘Audience Choice Award’ at the Musical Comedy Awards (2020), was shortlisted for ‘Best Newcomer’ at Brighton Fringe (2023) and won ‘Best Stand Up Comedy’ at Manchester Fringe (2023).

In 2023, she debuted her “Joyful” (Telegraph) one-woman show Amy Webber: no previous experience. The show was awarded multiple five-star reviews and was shortlisted for the Amused Moose Comedy Award. She took the show to Edinburgh Fringe where she had a sell-out run and was added to The Telegraph’s “35 of the funniest shows at the Fringe” list.

Closing we have Ben Pope. Ben is a stand-up comedian, writer and comedy performer.  He has taken two critically-acclaimed solo stand-up hours to the Edinburgh Fringe – Baby Sasquatch in 2018 and Dancing Bear in 2019. His YouTube special Mr Big Stuff – released in December 2022 – has been viewed 35k times and counting. In 2023 he took his new hour Holy Cow on tour around the country, including a run at London’s Soho Theatre. Not to brag, but Joe Lycett said it was “excellent.”

He has been doing stand-up for the best part of a decade gigging regularly across the UK and has previously worked with the award-winning NewsRevue, appeared on Comedy Central’s Achievement Unlocked, Dave’s Comedy Guide to Life and the BBC New Comedy Award on Radio 4 Extra.

In his spare time (haha) he manages Review, an independent bookshop in Peckham.

Undeniably funny and a clear crowd favourite

EDFEST MAG ****

He’s right at home on the mic. Wildly relatable and refreshingly honest, Pope slickly cultivates the fine line between storytelling and comedic oversharing…a very entertaining set
