She said yes!

Theatre Royal’s stage plays host to many magical moments of fiction throughout the year, but today a real-life magic moment took place: a wedding proposal!

The happy couple had already planned to get married in the theatre, and had set a date in August 2020, but the groom realised he hadn’t officially proposed yet, so hatched a sneaky plan. He invited the bride’s parents along for a quick visit to the theatre, pretending their visit was for her to tell them about the venue, but as they were on stage he said ‘there’s one more thing I need to do…’ and got down on his knee.

She was astounded, but the surprises didn’t stop there – her husband-to-be had invited one of her former students to the theatre and hidden him in the wings, bringing him on with a flourish for an extra sparkle of magic. Theatre Royal staff were on hand to ensure everything went as planned and the surprise remained secret until the right moment, and what a lovely moment it was.

We are looking forward to providing our beautiful auditorium as the venue for their ceremony next year, the theatre is licensed for weddings so they will be able to get married on the very same stage that the proposal happened on, and another lovely day it will be.
