Theatre Workshop On Zoom

We are delighted to continue with our adult theatre groups online, facilitated by professional actors and theatre makers.

Participants will work on a project during their weekly zoom sessions culminating in the creation of a brand new audio performance at the end of the programme.

The Moral Steam Engine

If you are over 18, have an interest in theatre making, visual arts, history or would just like to start the new year with a new project then this new Adult Participation project could be what you’re looking for.

The Moral Steam Engine project will be a creative exploration of Thomas Clarkson and his relationship to Bury St Edmunds and Suffolk through his marriage to Catherine Buck. This creative project will culminate in an audio and visual performance exploring Clarkson’s calling as an abolitionist.

You will look at his place in Bury St Edmunds’ history and his friendships with artists, Quakers and other non-conformists including: Josiah Wedgewood; William Wordsworth; William Wilberforce and Samuel Taylor Coleridge whose phrase the ‘Moral Steam Engine’ is used to describe Clarkson to this day.

Work with writers, theatre makers and visual artists to bring Clarkson’s world to life today. Bring your creativity imagination and desire to tell a story to this create theatre making project.
