Screening: Theatre Royal Youth Theatre & Young Company Sharing

Sat 26 Jun View Performances & Book Tickets

Running Time : 1 hour 30 minutes

Come along and watch a screening of the output of this term’s Youth Theatre Workshops.  Under ‘normal’ circumstances these workshops would be in-person but Covid sent us online and we are delighted how the participants have embraced this change.

This screening will show you what wonderful work they can create and may inspire you, or someone you know, to join us.

This event is part of our Digital Festival which showcases the work of our community and highlights the creativity of people who take part in Theatre Royal activities. Theatre Royal prides itself on being a theatre where there is a space for everyone who has a creative itch to scratch – whether that’s those who are just starting their creative journey or those who have been exploring this for a while. Everyone has a chance to have a go, get involved and take part. This series of events will showcase the work that this creative community and our partners have been producing behind locked doors during this past year. Maybe you will be inspired to join us and be a part of this journey.

Youth 8- 11 – ‘Our Alternative Zoom Worlds’

We challenged our youngest youth theatre group to create pieces of theatre on zoom. We looked at physical theatre and how music influenced us and how it made us feel. We also looked at spoken word and created pieces about things that meant a lot to them. We also looked at scripted work and how we could create a scripted piece of theatre on the platform of zoom.

Youth 12-16 –  ‘Me and My Zoom Box’

Our 12-16 year olds turned their zoom boxes into stages and created mini-performance areas looking at lighting costume, trick and effects of zoom to create some interesting pieces.

We looked at 2020 as a stimulus and with the use of music we created some very inspiring and reflective pieces. All their own work, with weeks of development and producing. They also looked at scripted work and how they could create a scripted piece of theatre on the platform of zoom.

Youth 16-22  –  ‘Us’

Our older group (Young Company) explored monologues, by looking at published pieces that resonated with them and then made these into performance pieces.  They did a response to a piece of spoken word by local writer and poet Molly Naylor which they took as inspiration to create their own pieces of spoken word.

Alongside this, we did a piece of flash work – challenging the group to write a poem, monologue or piece of spoken word in 5 minutes all inspired by a single word we gave them.  Working independently they used different mediums, techniques and creativity to make them into what you see today.
