Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds Emergency Re-opening Appeal
Theatre Royal is currently closed and as a result almost all of our income has ceased. We receive crucial public authority funding from Suffolk County Council and West Suffolk Councils, but this makes up a small percentage of what we need to survive. We are very fortunate to have ongoing and loyal support from our Patrons, Friends, Major Donors and Corporate Sponsors – without whom (even in normal times) we simply could not survive. We have received an Arts Council Emergency Grant to help us through this challenging time. In June 2020 we launched an emergency reopening appeal – The Show Will Go On! – in order to help us raise the vital funds we need to re-open our theatre safely. The appeal target was set at £50,000 and we reached it within four weeks – we have now raised in excess of £70, 000. Although this is not enough to cover the income we have lost due to the closure, it will help us to re-open the doors of our beautiful playhouse when the time is right and will help to ensure Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds remains financially stable and robust.
The appeal was supported and endorsed by celebrity patrons such as Gyles Brandreth, Dame Judi Dench, Sir Derek Jacobi, Bill Nighy, Libby Purves, Robert Glenister and Armando Iannucci and we cannot thank them enough for this.
We have been overwhelmed by the love and support we have received from our customers, Friends, Patrons, business sponsors and community groups.
