Our summer production is back and we need you!
We’re looking for young people with a passion for theatre to be a part of the young company and young technician’s team for Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds’ summer production of
The Secret Garden
When Mary Lennox, the unloved, contrary, and spoiled ten-year-old, is found alone in the deserted house after her parent’s death, she is sent to live with an uncle whom she has never known.
In Yorkshire, England, at his secluded Misselthwaite Manor, Martha Sowerby, a warm-hearted chambermaid, introduces Mary to the late Mrs. Craven and her private walled garden, which has been locked for years. As Mary becomes curious to explore this secret garden, will she be able to find the key?
Now in its fifth year, this programme provides young people with the unique opportunity to be a part of one of Theatre Royal’s in-house productions, whilst working alongside professional actors and a team of industry professionals.
“I cannot express enough what a positive experience this was for my son. Having had problems with bullying at school and low self-confidence in making friends, he has flourished in every way doing this performance. He has grown in confidence and happiness, in no small part to the wonderful group of young people, the team at Theatre Royal, and the professional actors as well. He now goes into his new school year feeling more positive about himself and his abilities,” parent of Holes young company member, 2021.
We are looking for young people aged 10-19 to be in the cast. We would like to encourage applications from young people who are learning disabled and neurodivergent. You don’t need any previous experience, just an interest in performing and a passion to learn something new.
We are also offering up to 4 young people aged 16+ the opportunity to be a part of the young crew, working backstage amongst our dynamic technical team.
To apply, please follow the link below and fill out the digital application form. Auditions will be held on Sat 21 May and Sun 12 June at Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds. Further details will be provided once your application has been submitted.
