Two new adult drama groups on zoom

As part of Theatre Royal Bury St Edmund’s Beyond Walls programme they have launched two brand-new adult participation workshops on Zoom.

The first, called Act Your Age, is a 10-week programme called Special Delivery specifically for the over 55’s who have a flair for improvisation, characterisation, dramatic writing or simply a fascination with hidden stories of WW2.

The Bury Records office holds an amazing collection of letters written by soldiers of the Suffolk Regiment during the retreat towards Dunkirk in 1940. But by a quirk of fate, the letters never reached home…Now those letters will be the inspiration for some unique new-writing.

During the course of 10 weekly zoom sessions, led by actor and theatre-maker Lynn Whitehead, with input from other theatre practitioners, the participants will work on a joint project with Suffolk Artlink, to bring to life the characters in the hidden stories from the Suffolk Regiment letters.  They will be creating background stories and scenes which will be recorded, professionally produced and available for download Spring 2021.

Act Your Age is funded by: Arts Council England and Awards For All – The National Lottery Community Fund

The second is an 8-week programme for over 18’s called Echoes from the Wings.  This is for people who love listening to audio stories and would like to participate in the creation and production of a brand-new festive audio drama or have a go at writing or voice-acting for radio. No previous experience is needed, just a love of story-telling, theatre-making and working together to create something wonderful.

These weekly Zoom sessions are run by lead artist Lynn Whitehead and a team of professional theatre makers including a sound designer & editor. The participants will learn new skills, meet new people and create an audio drama together which will be professionally produced and released for download in December 2020.

Echoes from the Wings is funded by: Arts Council England, Bury St Edmunds Town Council, West Suffolk Council, West Suffolk Council Community Chest, Suffolk County Council & Suffolk Community Foundation
