Getting here

A jewel in the crown of Suffolk

However you’re travelling to Bury St Edmunds, you’ll find us only a short walk away, whether you’re using public transport or driving. Here’s some useful travel information to help you plan your visit to Theatre Royal.

Where to find us

Address: Theatre Royal, Westgate Street, Bury St Edmunds, IP33 1QR.

Drive up Maynewater Lane and the theatre is situated on the left, opposite the Greene King Brewery & Café.

On foot, you’ll enter through the front entrance of the theatre on Westgate Street.

From the town centre, we’re a 15-mintue walk from the Arc Shopping Centre and just 5-minutes from the Abbey Gardens.

By car

Bury St Edmunds is located just off the A14 east of Cambridge and west of Ipswich. From the Midlands or the East Coast, follow the A14.

From London, take the M25 and M11/A11 then A14 heading east (sign-posted Newmarket/Ipswich/Felixstowe).

Approaching from the west, take the third exit for Bury St Edmunds and turn right at the large roundabout towards the town centre.

Approaching from the east, take the first exit for Bury St Edmunds and turn left at the traffic lights towards the town centre.

Go straight over the mini-roundabout and then right at the next roundabout into Southgate Street.

Follow the road for 500 yards and you will join the one-way system (Maynewater Lane). Go up the hill and turn to the left into Westgate Street.

The theatre is on your left, opposite the Greene King Brewery & Café.

Parking

There is no on-site parking at Theatre Royal.

If you are attending a performance, the Greene King Staff Car Park is made available to our visitors for evening and weekend performances only.

The Greene King Staff Car Park is accessed off Cullum Road (A1302) and opens 1 hour before your performance at a charge per vehicle. Access to the theatre is via steps (3-minute walk). See directions on Google Maps.

You can book a Parking Space here.

If you are visiting on a weekday in the daytime, we recommend using Ram Meadow Car Park, IP33 1XT on Cotton Lane (12-minute walk).

There is a single unpoliced disabled parking advisory bay near the theatre outside No.5 Westgate Street but this is not legally enforceable or protected against misuse. Other nearby accessible parking bays are owned by local businesses and intended for their customers only.

Wheelchair users and customers who find travelling distances challenging may use our drop-off point for step-free access at the front of the theatre on Westgate Street.
