Bespoke offerings for your school
Here at Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds we work annually with over 5,000 local primary school children through our core programmes, bespoke workshops and partner packages.
Our programme is designed to support schools with delivery of their curriculum, focusing on building literacy and theatrical skills.
All of our facilitators are DBS checked and have been awarded Safeguarding Children Level 1 Certification.
ARTSMARK SCHOOLS – For our standalone workshops and CPD sessions we offer a 20% discount.
Primary School Programmes
Doorstep Festival
Growing year on year, The Doorstep Theatre Festival is a touring rural arts festival designed to make high-quality arts accessible to young people across Suffolk. This is one of our flagship programmes.
Tiny Plays, Big Ideas
Supported by Arts Council England, ‘Tiny Plays, Big Ideas’ allows Year 6 pupils the opportunity to write their own plays and see them performed by professional actors on our stage. We also work with mixed year group classes (Y5/Y6).
Shakespearience
A bold and creative response project designed to immerse students into some of the most famous Shakespeare plays.
Away from the curriculum
Designed for young people who live in rural areas to take part in an after-school drama club.

Prices are for the academic year 2025/2026 and apply to all state-funded schools. Please get in touch with us if you are private school to discuss our packages.

- Shakespearience (Standard offer – Visit for a class to watch a Shakespearean play at Theatre Royal with a follow-up workshop demystifying his words at your school)
- Careers Carousel at Theatre Royal (Morning at Theatre Royal, 30-minute sessions with each department, finding out more about their roles and careers in theatre)
- 1 Additional Day of TRBSE time at school (to be tailored to your needs – workshops, CPD, rehearsing school plays, unlocking the curriculum in creative ways) (1.5 Days in total)

- Tiny Plays Big Ideas (Our playwrighting project for Years 5 & 6 – writing their first play, one child from each school gets their play performed at Theatre Royal by professional actors in front of their peers)
- 1.5 Additional Days of TRBSE time at your school (to be tailored to your needs – workshops, CPD, rehearsing school plays, unlocking the curriculum in creative ways (3 days in total)

Teachers Network
Our Teachers Network (including SEN) meet twice a year: once for Primary and once for Secondary Schools. The sessions take place 45 minutes before a show and are free to attend. At the sessions we will talk you through programmes that are available to book and also ways in which you can work in partnership with us. Attendance includes a free drink and ticket to watch the show that evening.
