Take to the stage
Licensed for marriages and civil partnerships, our stage provides a beautiful, dramatic backdrop for ceremonies and celebrations within our dramatic, intimate auditorium.
After the vows (and bows) you can continue your special day with us. With dynamic seating options available, the auditorium can seat as many as 300 guests with the stage transforming to accommodate wedding breakfasts for up to 90 people, or an evening reception dance floor for a theatrical end to your day.
Alternatively, drinks, canapés and smaller receptions can be hosted in the more contemporary setting of our Greene Room Bar and Garden.
Perfect casting
Join our restaurant partners, The Angel Hotel, to take care of your wedding catering with the choice of dining at the theatre or at the hotel itself, a short walk from the theatre in the centre of Bury St Edmunds. The Angel Hotel provides the perfect accommodation for for all guests from the bridal party, to family and friends.
Whilst we’re well-connected with brilliant local suppliers who can help make your day really special, if you have preferred caterers, photographers or musicians, we will happily work together to ensure everything runs like clock-work.

Available dates
With performances taking place throughout the year, only a few dates remain available for special occasions like weddings. Get in touch with us to discover the latest availability. Due to the nature of our scheduling, we occasionally also have dates for special celebrations at short notice.
Private events
We offer a small range of unique spaces of varying capacity including our Regency stage, intimate auditorium, contemporary Greene Room Bar and Sir Peter Hall Room, all available for corporate hire and special events with technical support if required.
Whether it’s a family party, christening, birthday, business conference, meeting, or just an excuse to celebrate together, the theatre provides a spectacular backdrop and flexibility to facilitate your special event.
Filming location
Theatre Royal is the only working Regency theatre in the country. The sheer beauty and intimacy of this very special theatre provides a unique and spectacular location for filming. The theatre has featured in a variety of programmes including Channel 4 TV episodes of Four in a Bed and Come Dine With Me; a sequence in a BBC Art History series, an American TV programme about the history of Handel’s Messiah and most notably, most recently featured in Armando Iannucci and Lionsgate Films The Personal History of David Copperfield.
