Welcome to our Secondary School and Further Education page, here you will see an overview of the different programmes we run at Theatre Royal for ages 12 – 18.

From supporting GCSE and A-Level delivery, to bespoke workshops and technical support, Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds is dedicated to giving students unforgettable learning experiences.

Our programme is designed to support schools with their delivery of the curriculum, providing young people with opportunities to build their theatrical skills.

All of our facilitators are DBS checked and have been awarded Safeguarding Level 1 Certification.

Artsmark Schools – For our standalone workshops and CPD sessions we offer a 20% discount.

Schools Partner Packages

Schools Partner Packages, tailored to Secondary Schools, are designed to offer a variety of workshops, experiences and projects to introduce your students into the world of the performing arts whilst also linking to multiple areas of the national curriculum including English and PSHE.

Prices are for the academic year 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 and apply to all state-funded schools. Please get in touch with us if you are private school to discuss our packages.

Although these have been carefully structured based on real-time experiences and schools’ feedback to help us deliver the best possible experience for you – we understand that no two institutions are exactly the same.

    • 3 days with one of our Creative Learning facilitators. This could be targeted workshops around a certain focus of the curriculum such as introduction to GCSE Drama, devising, Shakespeare or support with sharing’s or public performances or even CPD for teachers.
    • Invite to one of our Teacher Network Evenings, which will include 2 free tickets to a performance and an opportunity to speak with other educators in the sector.

    • Day at the Theatre Royal focusing on the GCSE component Texts in Practice. Day at Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds is designed to support young people’s understanding of live theatre. Following from production to exam, TRBSE facilitators will guide students through the exam question relating back to the production that they have seen

    Day includes:
    Includes 35 tickets for a school’s performance.

    Follow up workshop focusing on live theatre question of GCSE exam.

  • All elements of package 1 and 2 plus:

    • Page to stage workshop – 1 workshop at your school with 2 actors and a TRBSE facilitator focusing on the GCSE component Understanding Drama.  Page to Stage is a workshop package which brings two professional actors and one of our facilitators to your school to explore your chosen GCSE set text.
    • Technician at school for a day or 2 half days to go through your technical equipment on site and show staff and students how best to utilise it.

Focusing on the GCSE component Understanding Drama.  Page to Stage is a workshop package which brings two professional actors and one of our facilitators to your school to explore your chosen GCSE set text.

Day at Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds

Focus on the GCSE component Texts in Practice. Day at Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds is designed to support young people’s understanding of live theatre. Following from production to exam, TRBSE facilitators will guide students through the exam question relating back to the production that they have seen.

Work Experience

Our work experience programme has been designed to give young people an insight into careers in the arts. These opportunities are available to 15 – 19-year-olds only for 2 weeks in June.

Technical Support

We can provide a technician at your school teaching you and your students how to use equipment to get the most out of it.

Bespoke Workshops

We can work with you to design targeted workshops to support your delivery of the curriculum across all key stages. Previous workshops have included: Confidence, Performing Skills, Playwrighting, Devising and many more.

CPD

We can provide CPD sessions for your staff to explore creative approaches to the curriculum. Previous CPD sessions have included: Teamwork, Staff Rapport, The Arts, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Creative Writing, Non-Verbal approaches and Vocal skills.

Teachers Network

We are committed to delivering high-quality, accessible projects for educational providers across the region; providing opportunities to learn from experienced theatre practitioners, watch professional performances and perform on our stage.

Our Teachers Network (including SEN) meet twice a year: once for Primary and once for Secondary Schools. The sessions take place 45 minutes before a show and are free to attend. At the sessions we will talk you through programmes that are available to book and also ways in which you can work in partnership with us. Attendance includes a free drink and ticket to watch the show that evening.
