Welcome to our Secondary School and Further Education page, here you will see an overview of the different programmes we run at Theatre Royal for ages 12 – 18.
From supporting GCSE and A-Level delivery, to bespoke workshops and technical support, Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds is dedicated to giving students unforgettable learning experiences.
Our programme is designed to support schools with their delivery of the curriculum, providing young people with opportunities to build their theatrical skills.
All of our facilitators are DBS checked and have been awarded Safeguarding Level 1 Certification.
Artsmark Schools – For our standalone workshops and CPD sessions we offer a 20% discount.
Prices are for the academic year 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 and apply to all state-funded schools. Please get in touch with us if you are private school to discuss our packages.

Day at Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds
Focus on the GCSE component Texts in Practice. Day at Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds is designed to support young people’s understanding of live theatre. Following from production to exam, TRBSE facilitators will guide students through the exam question relating back to the production that they have seen.
Work Experience
Our work experience programme has been designed to give young people an insight into careers in the arts. These opportunities are available to 15 – 19-year-olds only for 2 weeks in June.
Technical Support
We can provide a technician at your school to teaching students and staff tips, tricks and equipment best practise.
Bespoke Workshops
We can work with you to design targeted workshops to support your delivery of the curriculum across all key stages. Previous workshops have included: Confidence, Performing Skills, Playwrighting, Devising and many more.
Continuing Professional Development
We can provide CPD sessions for your staff to explore creative approaches to the curriculum. Previous CPD sessions have included: Teamwork, Staff Rapport, The Arts, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Creative Writing, Non-Verbal approaches and Vocal skills.
Our Teachers Network (including SEN) meet twice a year: once for Primary and once for Secondary Schools. Teachers are invited to watch a Theatre Royal show for free and our Teacher Network sessions take place 45 minutes before the show begins. At the sessions we will talk you through our Creative Learning programmes and opportunities that are available to book and also ways to partner with us including Artsmark and more. Your invitation to the Teacher Network evening includes a free drink and ticket to watch the show. Teachers are encouraged to come either on their own or with other teaching professionals.
