Summer School Auditions!

UPDATED MARCH 17 FOLLOWING THEATRE CLOSURE

As of 17 March, the theatre will be closed until at least 26 April following Government advice.  At this point in time we do not know when we will be in a position to re-open and what impact this will have on Animal Farm.  We would still like to encourage those who are interested in auditioning to complete the Registration Form and we will get in touch when we have an update.

Open to young people aged from 14 to 22 years, this exciting project will be fun and hard work but, above all, life-changing; we really want to build a coherent ensemble which will work well together and with our professional actors to tell this amazing story.  The production will be very physical and we are looking for actors with strong voices (both acting & singing) and who are confident using their bodies to also tell the story.

George Orwell’s ANIMAL FARM

Adapted for the stage by Ian Wooldridge

Neglected, overworked and fed up, the animals of Manor Farm were ready to fight back. Now with the rebellion won and the humans exiled, what started off as a brave new era is turning dark as a new leader emerges. Four legs good, two legs bad… but what if two legs are better?

“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”

Starring Theatre Royal Summer School students, George Orwell’s razor-edged fairy-tale is given new life in this thought-provoking adaptation by Ian Wooldridge. To mark its 75^th Anniversary, this stunning adaptation, directed by Marcus Romer, celebrates how Orwell’s masterpiece remains ferociously fresh, with a chilling message that continues to echo real-world temperaments.

Use your talents, meet new friends, create lifelong memories and grab the chance to immerse yourself for 5 weeks, learning from the best professional actors, directors, designers and technicians.  We are looking for young people who have interests in the following areas:

Performers -> Actor/musician/singer/dancer
Backstage –> Stage management, technical theatre, set building, design and costume

Animal Farm will be directed by Marcus Romer and the rest of the production team will be announced at a later date.

Our Community Productions are about more than ‘just’ performing.  We like to give all the participants (production & performers) a more immersive experience of being part of the creation of a production. Performers, in particular, learn the importance of the support given by the technical team; treat them with respect and as equals and the whole experience is better for everybody.

 

The Summer School is planned to run Mon 3 Aug – Sat 5 Sep 2020

The cost to be a part of this amazing 5-week project is £200.00. This can be paid in instalments and we do have a limited number of scholarship places available, so please contact Natalie directly to discuss this further.

 

The date for auditions will be advised when we have more information as to when the theatre will re-open.

To register for the Auditions, please complete and return the TRBSE Animal Farm 2020 Confidential Registration Form to Natalie by Wed 15 Apr.

Auditions/Interviews: This will be a group workshop and the performers will be asked to sing and read some of the text and take part in a movement workshop. The production team will participate at the start of the workshop/audition and will then be interviewed.

Rehearsal Period: Mon 3 – Sat 15 Aug 2020 (Mon-Sat, 10am – 6pm)

Production Week: Mon 17 – Fri 21 Aug 2020 (with most days ending at 22:00)

Show Week: Fri 21 Aug – Sat 5 Sep

We will expect commitment for the whole period, from the start of rehearsals to the final performance.
