The Drop In Project Update

Posted on: 13th May, 2019

Theatre Royal have partnered with the Drop In in Bury for the past four years, bringing creative opportunities and some community ticketing for Drop In members to enjoy a good night out.

We are always happy to partner with The Drop In which provides a warm and inviting environment for homeless and vulnerably housed people in our area.

Theatre Royal is currently working on a print making project with the guests from the Drop In and today’s workshop revealed some new talent.

Led by Jaqui, we created some images using text, print and collage. So far, around twenty guests from the Drop In have had a go at using the materials to create some new images. We will be working with guests that want to further their engagement with the creative process over the coming weeks and will show the outcomes to a wider audience in June at Theatre Royal.

Some members have brought extensive prior knowledge and highly creative skill sets to the print making table. One of the values guests have brought to the project is thrift – with the sentiment that “if it’s not free – we can’t use it”. This has led us to think creatively about how to display the work and what resources to use in the printmaking process. Guests are bringing in found materials each week and together we are being creative with the process to explore materials and make some meaningful images to tell the stories that the makers want to share through this work.

Watch this space and see what we create from this work in June 2019.
